MyEnergy Measures Your Utility Usage Against Others to Find Out If You're Paying Too Much

MyEnergy Measures Your Utility Usage Against Others to Find Out If You're Paying Too MuchWe use a lot of energy, gas, and water every month but it can be difficult to tell when we're using too much for our given household. Additionally, utility companies accidentally overcharge from time to time. MyEnergy shows you what other homes like yours are paying so you can figure out if your bill is too high, too low, or just right.

Once you sign up for a MyEnergy account, you just have to link it to your utility companies. The site provides direct links to the login pages, though mine were out of date. If you know your login information off-hand, however, you can just enter it into the site and it'll find your information. From there, you'll get an overview of what others are paying so you can compare. How much data you'll get seems to depend on how many other people in your area are using MyEnergy, but just a few can give you a pretty good picture of your situation compared to the rest of the neighborhood. Regardless, you'll get an average of of usage based on available data. For example, I found that my gas usage was 75% less than the average, and the lowest in my neighborhood by 50%.

Using MyEnergy requires information sharing, and according to the terms of service you may be asked to share personal identity information like your address, or even as much as your social security number. MyEnergy promises to take measures to keep your information private and secure, and I was only explicitly asked to share my address, but if you're concerned about your privacy you should read through the terms before singing up. If it all looks good to you, MyEnergy provides a nice way to quickly compare energy bills?information that can be very valuable if you're worried you're paying too much.
